Lockbox code abuse

It seems that some agents are still providing lockbox codes to consumers. Giving lockbox codes directly to unauthorized persons – regardless of whether a home is vacant, bank-owned or otherwise – is not a good business practice. Other security measures that are vital to remember include:

  • Change your lockbox codes regularly
  • Don’t use the same code for more than one lockbox
  • It is a fineable offense ($100 per occurrence) for an MLS subscriber to share lockbox codes to a property with consumers

Do NOT provide lockbox codes to anyone other than an authorized licensed real estate agent.
