MCAR-WWOCAR merger information

It’s an exciting time to be a Southeastern Michigan REALTOR® — you have the chance to be part of something big, something that will resonate throughout the local industry for many, many years.

Merging the Metropolitan Consolidated Association of REALTORS® (MCAR) and Western Wayne Oakland County Association of REALTORS® (WWOCAR), the state’s two largest local REALTOR® associations, would be a rare feat and one MCAR leaders feel would pay enormous dividends for members.

But such change doesn’t come without questions and we’ve tried to address what we feel will be the biggest ones during this exciting time. Please keep reading to learn more.

Merger Q&A

Why merge? Do we need to consolidate with another association in order to remain viable?
Merging simply offers too many advantages to ignore. Here are just a few:

  • Economic advantage of a single association
  • Enhanced and expanded influence with governmental bodies
  • Capability to combine best practices and best programming of each association, which will provide members with new and enhanced programming

Bringing MCAR and WWOCAR together would result in a powerful association primed to help members navigate the challenges that remain in the real estate industry and leverage what opportunities become available in the next market.

It’s our belief that merging will lead us to a better mousetrap – an organization built around, energized by, and able to respond more quickly to the rapid changes affecting our industry.

The associations may be fine without a merger – but far, far stronger with one.

Will merging save us money?
Consolidating operations of the two associations will provide financial benefit, although we don’t yet know the full scope of that savings. It’s important to keep in mind that NOT merging could result in higher dues down the road as the efficiencies available to separate organizations are exhausted.

Will either office close?
Both MCAR’s location in Troy and WWOCAR’s location in Farmington will remain open. Additionally, MCAR will continue to provide member programs in Macomb County, primarily at Macomb Community College. We will evaluate our locations in the future to determine the best way to meet our members’ needs and expectations.

Please note: We are currently negotiating to reduce the size and cost of our MCAR facility, an effort that was underway before merger discussions began.

How will this affect Realcomp and MiRealSource?
This merger will not have any effect on the local MLS companies; you can continue using both or either as you see fit.

We have great services now. Why would I want to give that up?
By taking the best of which each association can bring to the new entity, we can enhance those services while bringing them to a broader audience. In fact, leadership and staff at both organizations are very excited about what the merger means for the programs and benefits for you, our members. Bottom line: you’ll continue to receive outstanding services and our portfolio of benefits will only grow over the coming months.

If we decide to consolidate, how will I be sure that I don’t lose representation?
Representation is a top priority for us. Post-merger, it is our goal to target local agents better than ever before by identifying best practices in outreach and communication, using our broader volunteer base and utilizing greater technological advances than would be available to us separately.

Who will my staff contacts be?
The staff you know and trust will still be here to serve you.
